This week, we’re raising awareness about the barriers that can prevent intergenerational relationships from forming. By understanding these challenges, we can start working toward solutions!
Activities for the Week:
✅ Barrier Breaker Reflection: What are some reasons different generations struggle to connect? Consider technology gaps, misconceptions, or social norms that create distance. Write down three challenges and brainstorm ways to overcome them.
Example: “One challenge I’ve noticed is that younger people often assume older generations don’t want to learn new technology. But when I showed my grandfather how to use video calls, he loved it! Sometimes, small efforts can break big barriers.”
🔹 Share a challenge you’ve observed and a possible solution.
✅ The Reverse Learning Challenge: Instead of teaching, ask someone from a different generation to teach you something new—a skill, a perspective, or even a life lesson.
Example: “My niece taught me how to edit videos on my phone, and in return, I shared my knowledge of photography. It turned into a fun skill swap that we both enjoyed!”
🔹 Try this with a friend, colleague, or family member and share what you learned!
✅ "How Would You Fix It?" Discussion: Pick a current issue (e.g., climate change, workplace diversity, digital literacy) and discuss how different generations might approach solving it.
Example: “We had a conversation at work about sustainability. My younger colleagues focused on innovation, while older colleagues emphasised long-term impact. It made me realise how valuable it is to combine different generational perspectives.”
🔹 Start a discussion and share insights from different generations!
