This week, we’re focusing on ageism, one of the key obstacles to building strong intergenerational connections. By challenging stereotypes and fostering respect, we can inspire deeper understanding and encourage meaningful connections across generations.
Activities for the Week:
✅ Spot the Stereotypes: Reflect on an age-related stereotype you’ve experienced or observed in your daily life, and think about how it may be inaccurate or harmful. Share a specific example and how you’ve worked to challenge it.
Example: “People assume older adults aren’t tech-savvy, but my grandmother is more active on social media than I am!”
🔹 Share an age-related stereotype you’ve encountered and how you’ve challenged it.
✅ Rewriting the Narrative: Tell a story about someone you know who defies generational expectations, whether it’s a colleague, family member, or friend. Focus on how they’ve shown that age doesn’t limit potential or capabilities.
Example: “I work with an 80-year-old yoga instructor who’s the most energetic person I know!”
🔹 Highlight an inspiring intergenerational story.
✅ Age Inclusion Audit: Take a moment to evaluate how your workplace, community, or media habits include or exclude different generations. Consider where representation can improve and what actions you can take to promote age inclusion.
Example: “I realised my workplace only markets to younger audiences. Time to advocate for broader representation!”
🔹 Reflect on where age inclusion can improve around you.
